Had so much fun the other day with Jeanine Anderson (actress - with a recurring role in the television program "Glee" and many more film, theater and television credits, comedian and children's magician extraordinaire) during her headshot session at Camera Creations. Jeanine recently won the session during a raffle at our Toastmasters Executive 412, 65th Anniversary celebration. We completed a two look session at the studio. A few weeks ago I took some pictures for a group of new Catholics of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills, referred to as the RCIA group. Sister Virginia asked me to take some headshots of the group members so that they could be displayed about the church for the parishioners to see. The new Catholics were received into the Church at the Easter Vigil 2011.

For the March 23, 2011 Speed Networking Event, sponsored by the International Special Events Society of Los Angeles, I was invited as the "showcase company" where I photographed the majority of the event and then participated in the speed networking part of the evening. ISES regularly holds events for "event professionals" where we gather together to network and become educated on the latest trends in the industry and in ways to improve our individual businesses. During this speed networking event I gathered many business cards and spoke with a variety of event specialists with whom I then contacted in order to continue growing our relationships. After the last brush strokes on our fabulous red door went on at Photography Studio 7, where Camera Creations and Diana Brown Photography now live, we hosted an event on March 27, 2011, "Beautiful Inside & Out" in our photography session room. Mahogany Hair Revolution organized this event and requested that we participate as a host to the lecture segment of the event. Beautiful women did attend this event as can be witnessed below in the photographs snapped at the event. We also received our business signs that are now visible to the public eye as they pass our studio front.

We are so excited to be on the very cusp of completion of Photography Studio 7 for Camera Creations and Diana Brown Photography. The beautiful wooden floor has been laid down and the front reception room has only the very last few painting details to be done before we can call it complete. We hopefully will have our door signs on by Sunday and will start receiving clients for portrait sessions on Monday. We are exhausted, but exhilarated by the visible progress that has taken place. It has been a labor of love and we hope to pass on the joy and passion that it has taken to complete this monumental demolition and construction to our clients. STUDIO RENOVATIONS - PAINT ON!

The days are passing by rapidly for those of us involved in the renovation project of our new Photography Studio 7. The sanding, and Spackle are done and now owners and photographers of Camera Creations and Diana Brown Photography are teamed up here with Nollie Omranian (photography editor) and Louis Cimino (writer) to complete the paint job that was badly needed before rental of our studio, or photo sessions could take place. Below are some more cell phone photographs depicting our fun and excitement to complete this stage of renovations.

NEW STUDIO RENOVATIONS

Well folks, like I mentioned earlier, Camera Creations is moving to a new location and joining forces with Diana Brown Photography. We've been working hard at renovations and are nearing completion. Below are some photos taken on our cell phones of the work in progress. Our studio is called Photography Studio 7, and once renovated, will also be available for rent. We will still be specializing in portrait and wedding photography. And, the first month's special will be headshots for social networking and dating sites. Note: view videos last for best results.

WE ARE MOVING!!!

I am happy to announce that Camera Creations will be moving to 490 So. San Vicente Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048. The studio is adjacent to the Beverly Hills community and just south of the Beverly Center shopping mall. Our lease begins on March 1, 2011, so we are packing our bags, gathering ideas on decor, and cleaning the paint brushes in order to spruce up our new studio location. We will be sharing the studio space with Diana Brown Photography and will have the studio available for day rental as well.

All of our other contact information remains the same and we will still hold photography sessions at our historic Hollywood location when clients request this and for certain atmospheric sessions. Stay tuned for our opening event that will take place once we have all in place and are ready to accommodate a party. Camera Creations will also hold monthly photography session specials for the year 2011 in order to drum up new business for our studio. The specials will be announced on our social networking sites and on our website as well.

A few days ago Dr. Nick Campos, a well respected West Hollywood chiropractor, came by for a headshot session done on the rooftop of Camera Creations residential gallery. So, after a portrait session either at Camera Creations studio, or on location somewhere else, you can make an appointment in order for me to come and project the images from the shoot onto a large screen that will be set up to allow you to select the images that you would like to have printed. An order will be taken at that time and an option to have prints sent to you or picked up at the studio will be available too.

ETHNIC WEDDINGS

Ethnic Wedding Event

I suppose we can define an "ethnic wedding" in respect to where we reside on the earth's globe. For the Los Angeles community at the recent ABC networking meeting we had the fortune to listen to three speakers discuss ethnic weddings in the United States. The three ethnic communities that were chosen for this topic were Persian, Jewish and Indian. The meeting took place at the beautiful Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, CA. I was thrilled to attend this event in the Taglyan Cultural Complex for two reasons: one, because I was interested in the subject of the lecture and two, is the fact that the center is only a few blocks from where I live and have a residential gallery in Hollywood.

The Taglyan Complex is an Old World style building that can house a variety of events such as weddings, large parties and corporate meetings.The facility has a large ballroom, an impressive foyer, and lovely gardens embracing the back of the building. The sound system is state of the art and the food is definitely worth a five star rating. It is an admirable place to visit and to consider for your wedding venue.

The speakers at the ABC meeting, moderated by Harmony Walton, were Carol Rosen of Party Designs by Carol, Sonia Sharma of Sonia Sharma Events and Nicole Hirsty Saine of Cobalt Events. Each speaker gave us some incite into the cultural distinctions that make up each of these ethnic weddings. Carol covered the Jewish wedding, Sonia the Indian wedding and Nicole the Persian wedding.

And, finally, at this meeting I had the pleasure of sitting next to Rabbi Wendy Spears who is a freelance Rabbi with a warm, funny and charming personality, Carmen Lindner of Gotta Have S"more who had some of her incredible delicious pastries for us to taste, Neema Lodhia of Wedding Store 24 who is part of a team of wedding experts that have helped plan many an Indian wedding, and Denise Hiatt, and Mamie Ware of De Mao Sue Weddings and Events a recently grouped team of wedding coordinators and venue representatives. I left the meeting with a satiated stomach, memories of a fun sociable evening and an expanded knowledge of the "ethnic wedding" in regards to our location on this planet.

I gave a door prize of a portrait session at an Executive Le Tip of West Los Angeles mixer more than a year ago and Brian Angstman of Naturally Green Carpet Cleaning won it. Brian finally chose an image for his free print that came with the session. Brian's family are all pictured here together. It was fun trying to get all of the members in the family to strike the pose at the same moment in time. We had fun and I am very happy to deliver the final print to Brian.

My client came by with all of the family members, his three doggies, for a pet portrait session in late July 2010. He wanted to make sure that he got some photographs of his older dog Sophie, who was 17 yrs. old, before her last day. She was quite senile this very last year and he sensed that her days were numbered. As it stands he was correct and ultimately very appreciative that he had this photo session done, since Sophie did pass away just a week after the session. Here are some pics of the new puppy Madelaine whom is sure to help heal the sorrow of my clients loss of Sophie. Bless your heart Madelaine.

AN EVENING AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

We were so fortunate last night to be invited by our friend Rick Baum to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Slatkin with violinist Sarah Chan playing the lead. It was a voluptuous experience both sonically and gastronomically (if both of those are actually words -- well if not they should be, LOL). We, being David, Allen, Rick and myself, sat at the very center front row of the booths at the Bowl. Rick served up a meal that he had prepared in advance which could have put any French chef to shame. I brought some wines that I purchased at Fancifull Gift Baskets on Melrose with the selections guided by Wally August, the owner. And, then for desert I brought some pastries coming from Michel Richard that has moved to 707 N Stanley ave. on North Stanley and Melrose.

Sitting where we sat the sound quality was intoxicating. I was able to here all of the instruments and then when Sarah Chan began to play I was brought to tears. A gifted and masterful performance from Chan of Shostakovitch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 77. Played the way only those who have mastered their instrument so thoroughly that they now give performances that seem effortless and coming from the heart. The orchestra members seemed equally moved by her performance and the Phil gave an inspired performance of Shostakovitch's Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47 as well.

An absolutely wonderful night that has left a very positive impression on my soul. Thanks Rick!

ABC MEETING AT LOBO VIEW ESTATE AGOURA, CA

On Monday August 16th I, Julie Hopkins, attended a networking event at the Lobo View Estate in Agoura, CA held by the Association of Bridal Consultants. The photographer, Kevin Foley, and his beautiful wife who is a makeup artist by profession, hosted the event. The Foleys own this estate in Agoura and have fashioned it into a wonderful venue for weddings and just about any kind of event. The area is stunningly gorgeous, isolated from the crowds, and has some of the most picturesque views of the Santa Monica mountains.

During the event I had the pleasure of meeting, once again, Christine Dellosso of LA Limousine. Christine has a wonderful character. I could imagine that if their fleet of Limousine drivers is anything like Christine you are in for a very fun drive around town, or to and from an event. Christine then introduced me to Chailling of Chailling's Make Up. Chailling has some of the most reasonable prices for makeup and hair. Make sure to take a look at Chailling's "before and after pictures" on her website. We had a good time trying out together both Truxton's American Bistro menu that was delicious and generously served at the event. And for desert we ventured to the nothing bundt cakes savory sweets table. I regret to announce that the first batch of pastries were stolen from my plate when we left the table to get some wine. Now you know that those cakes were yummy when they get snatched away when you are not looking. LOL

Chailling then introduced me to our photo shoot buddy, Lauren Kinkade-Wong of Divine Events by Lauren. Lauren is an event coordinator. Then Sheryl Fraze of Garment Saver dropped by our table and introduce herself. Sheryl not only takes care of wedding attire in need of immediate repairs at an event, she also sell items that can protect your pristine white dress from becoming soiled before the ceremony and after wards when it is stored. The last people that we spoke with at the ABC event was Joeleen Medina, owner of A Sweet Design and Megan Meredith, a pastry designer. They have some of the most creative designs in cakes. And, just before leaving we had an impromptu photoshoot with LAPhotoparty.com They have a tent setup to take pictures of people at events that is similar to, but oh so much more, than a photo booth.

THE SANCHEZ FAMILY BAPTISM PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

The other Sunday I photographed a baptism for the Sanchez family at the Our Lady of Grace Church in Encino, CA. We started in the church and then went to the family home for some very festive celebrations. The Sacrament of the Baptism in the Catholic church is performed on infants. (FYI: "The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven sacraments not only in time (since most Catholics receive it as infants) but in priority, since the reception of the other sacraments depends on it. It is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation, the other two being the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church. Traditionally, the rite (or ceremony) of baptism was held outside the doors of the main part of the church, to signify this fact." By Scott P. Richert)

CITY BALLET OF LOS ANGELES ENCORE PERFORMANCE, 7/15/10

I went again to photograph the City Ballet of Los Angeles at their second performance downtown in the Loft Space above Chaya and Drago Centro restaurants. This evenings performance was sizzling. This past Monday, July 19th I attended a workshop event given by the Association of Bridal Consultants at The Bungalow Club in Los Angeles.

The workshop speakers were Dana LaRue and Hunter Stiebel of The Broke Ass Bride. Dana and Hunter were such inspired speakers and were so giving with their knowledge about blogging and branding. One of the many tidbits of information that I took home was something that I almost forgot about and that is the "hash symbol" (#) for Tweets. This symbol is excellent to place before words that are normally keywords for your blog or website. Basically words that will call attention to your field of interest, be it career or hobby. A word with a hash symbol in front of it will be search-able for people looking to follow Twitter posts of common interest. Give it a try.

The evening was made even more pleasant with the family style dinner given by the Bungalow Club and the company of fellow wedding specialists such as: Wendy Spears, a warm and friendly Rabbi and Reverend Clint Hufft, a non-denomination minister. Such a blessed table. To my left of the table was Doyle Borden of myflowerguy, a spirited and enthusiastic florist. Imagine that: a florist that can make beautiful arrangements and is full of personality to make your wedding day even more fun. And, finally, I enjoyed tasting the delicate pastries of Bittersweet Treats with Nellie Mum who is owner of Pleasant Surprise Events. Nellie is a sweetheart who operates her event planning and coordinating company with trusty lead assistant Chrisma Aguilar.

ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

Finally finished the building photos of Santa Monica Ford Car Dealership run by Mr. Ron Davis. These photographs are examples of dramatic Photoshop work. Of course, it could be even more extreme with the use of some HD technology, but that is for another day. Enjoyed working on this project, since Mr. Davis is a wonderful, patient, and kind man. Two weeks ago I went to a Pictage U Conference in San Diego, CA, where we, as photographers, studied and photographed Boudoir subjects. Having a Boudoir photography session gives a women a chance to be pampered, to be feminine, celebrate their womanhood, take a journey of self discovery and simply have fun. Boudoir sessions can be done solo or with a group of women who can spend the day at the studio and have a ball dressing up, enjoying refreshments and getting some beautiful images to hang on their wall or give to their husband, fiance or lover. Share buttons have become common on Web content, but they’re also easy to integrate into e-mails. If your e-mail consists of multiple articles, make sure each points to a page on the Web, and that your Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn share buttons are setup to share the URL of each respective article (note: you’ll want to stick to images and text links for your e-mail share buttons as opposed to JavaScript).
Beyond sharing articles though, make sure all of your e-mails include prominent links to your presence on various social sites. Calls to action in a sidebar or in the header like “Follow Us on Twitter” or “Become a Fan on Facebook” will help people connect with you on social sites and help build your audience on them.

BIG COMPANIES OPTING FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media marketing campaigns are proving to be goldmines rich with customer engagement and insight that companies wouldn’t likely have otherwise. Companies like PepsiCo are going to extensive lengths to foster this type of collaboration with fans, and the payoff has been big.
The company’s Mountain Dew division is several stages into its DEWmocracy campaign — a plan to launch a new Mountain Dew flavor with the public’s involvement at all levels of the process, and PepsiCo also just launched the Pepsi Refresh Project on January 13th. Rather than spending money on Super Bowl television ads this year, the company is spending $20 million on a social media campaign.
Jay Baer, founder of the social media strategy company Convince & Convert, said brands are realizing they need to market for the long haul. “I do think it’s a good move for Pepsi. I don’t know if every brand can pull it off,” he said.
The Pepsi Refresh Project and the DEWmocracy campaigns are part of a crowdsourcing effort that’s part of the larger PepsiCo plan to more closely integrate consumers with the brand. “Driving consumer interest and engagement takes imagination and often a certain amount of reinvention, so it’s fair to say we’re rethinking everything we do from product development to marketing campaigns across our entire portfolio,” said Bart Casabona, a Mountain Dew spokesman.

Portraits of Love Project Aims to Send 10,000 Free Family Portraits to Deployed Soldiers This Holiday Season

Local Photographer Among Those Volunteering to Help Send a Piece of Home to Soldiers Abroad

Old Bridge, NJ, August 11, 2009 — The PhotoImaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMDA) along with Soldiers’ Angels, a grassroots volunteer organization, revealed today the Portraits of Love Project, a volunteer effort aimed at sending family portraits to soldiers around the globe this holiday season.

Designed to help bring a piece of home to soldiers around the world, the project is utilizing the talents of over 150 volunteer photographers across the country who are opening their studios this September, to offer free family portraits to military family members who have a soldier deployed overseas. The portraits will be uploaded to a website, www.pmdaportraitsoflove.com, and a print will be sent, free of charge, directly to the soldier in Iraq, Afghanistan, or wherever they are deployed around the world. The goal of the project is to send 10,000 free family portraits during the month of September.

As part of this project, Julie Hopkins of Camera Creations has opened their studio during the months of September thru November to take professional family portraits of soldier’s families. Military family members call them at 323-466-3909, or go online at www.cameracreations.net to make an appointment. You will have to show a valid military ID to be eligible for this offer.

“This project is the photo industry’s way of giving back to our soldiers, and thanking them for the sacrifices they have made for our country,” said Jerry Grossman, the president of the PMDA who has spearheaded the effort. “Our industry is uniquely qualified to bring an important piece of home to our soldiers, and we’re pleased to be able to organize this effort.”

“It’s incredible how motivating a simple family photograph can be to a soldier who is far from home,” said Sergeant First Class Toby Nunn, who has served two tours in Iraq and has worked with Soldiers Angels on a number of projects. “This volunteer effort is one more way that we can help our soldiers cope with their situation,” he said.

The website was developed by Fujifilm, a PMDA member who has underwritten this effort; and SeeHere.com from Fujifilm is supplying the free prints to the soldiers and their families.

David (aka-Poe) and I (aka-Flapper) went to Los Angeles County Museum of Art last night for the Halloween costume ball. David won the "Best Creative" costume award. The prize is one night at the Biltmore Hotel with breakfast and dinner at La Ciudad. We plan to combine a night out at with a ballet at the Dorothy Chandler, or one of the downtown shows as a complete weekend out. Not bad, eh?

Jane Beaumont Hall, attorney, and I, photographer, spent last weekend at the Malibu Arts Fair located in the Malibu Civic Center displaying our specialties within our booth. Jane creates trust funds for your pets. She works closely with veterinarians and pet owners to help ensure that pets will be properly cared for in the event that the pet owner cannot care for them. I showed some of my pet photography highlighted below. We had a blast and enjoyed the art, people and the fresh air of Malibu. We will be at the Santa Monica Pet Fair this Saturday, August 1, 2009. I will be snapping photos of pets as a means of identification and the Red Cross is offering free micro-chipping for pets. Come and see us at the fair (Camera Creations and Jane Hall's booth).
